When can I buy tickets to see a Nickel City Chef competition?
Tickets always go on sale the first Friday of the year.

Why haven’t I received my tickets in the mail yet?
All NCC tickets are Will Call. They are held at the door under the name of the ticket purchaser. If you are a ticket purchaser who wishes to transfer your tickets into someone else’s name, please email us at nickelcitychef@gmail.com.

How do I know where to sit?
All NCC tickets are general admission, so seats are first come, first served. Please arrive before showtime if you are concerned about sightlines. That said, during the show we beam live footage from both kitchens onto mounted flat screen monitors, so no seat is a bad one!

What does my ticket include?
All guests enjoy the show as well as samples from our vendors and catered snacks from Nickel City Chef Adam Goetz of Craving.  A cash bar serving beer from Community Beer Works, wine, and water is also on site.

May I have a refund?
Unfortunately, due to the format of the show, we are unable to offer refunds or exchanges. Tickets are fully transferable. If you wish to transfer your ticket to someone else, please email us at nickelcitychef@gmail.com.

Tickets to the show I’d like to attend are sold out. Is there a waiting list?
Please email us at nickelcitychef@gmail.com with the date of the show in the subject line and your contact information enclosed in the email. If we end up with extra tickets, we reach out to the waiting list in the order in which requests were received.

Location & Time

Artisan is located at:
200 Amherst Street
Buffalo, NY 14207

What time does the show begin and end?
Shows always take place on Sundays. Doors open at 2:30pm, though the show doesn’t begin until 3pm. Each competition varies in length, but they usually wrap up between 4:45pm and 5:15pm.

Is Artisan Kitchens & Baths wheelchair accessible?
Absolutely! A ramp is located outside the building and an elevator is available to those who require it. Please let us know ahead of time if you need assistance so we can make your visit as comfortable as possible. You can contact Artisan Kitchens & Baths directly or email us at nickelcitychef@gmail.com.

Is Nickel City Chef appropriate for children?
We don’t recommend this event for anyone under 16 years of age or anyone of any age who has a hard time sitting still for any length of time.

Will we get to taste the food the chefs make?
As we’re sure you can understand, our chefs are tasked with creating three of the most amazing dishes of their careers in an unfamiliar kitchen in just an hour—not to mention the audience looking on! Guests are treated to samples from our vendors and snacks from our caterer, but only our judges are able to taste the chefs’ work on the day of the show.

How can I compete? What kinds of secret ingredients have you used in the past?
Any professional chef employed by a locally owned and operated restaurant, hotel, or club can apply to compete. Each year the application becomes available here, online, in the first week of October. We select competitors from the applications and notify them in early December.

What kinds of secret ingredients have you used in the past?
Many! And they’ve all been sourced here, in the dead of winter, in Buffalo, NY. Cheers to local agriculture! See them here.

How can I find out which chefs have competed and what they’ve cooked what at each of the competitions?
At the close of 2016, we assembled a large spreadsheet detailing the chefs, dishes, scores, and judges from each of the preceding seasons. You can access it here.

How many Nickel City Chef competitions have there been?
At the close of Nickel City Chef in 2016, we’d hosted 37 competitions in eight seasons. This does not include the five years we hosted competitions at Taste of Buffalo, our pastry challenge, either of our cake decorating competitions, or any of the many other fun things we’ve done over the years (like this one)!

Can I hire Nickel City Chef for to organize a corporate event or host a really cool dinner?
It depends! But we’re happy to discuss options with anyone, just shoot us an email at nickelcitychef@gmail.com.
